Where to get WordPress Hosting?

WordPress Hosting

Getting a WordPress Site started you have two choices:

Use WordPress.com or  self-hosted, which means have your own installation of  WordPress software with one of the many hosting businesses.

See this page for a good display of advantages and disadvantage of the two solutions.

Requirements for WordPress Hosting
WordPress is a pretty awesome system and is fairly easy to setup, if you have the right WordPress host in place and have some basic understanding of website terminology. Essentially, all you need to host a WordPress site is a web server connected to the internet that runs the PHP scripting language and MySQL database. Setup a database, download the software, make a few changes to a file, run the install, and then customize. Could take you anywhere from 10 minutes to 4 hours, depending on your skill level and existing hosting provider.
WordPress.org list three companies on their recommended hosting services page:

  1. Bluehost
  2. Dreamhost
  3. Media Temple
  4. Laughing Squad
We also have been working with MidPhase

If your rather like to have the best of two worlds, easy set-up and still self-hosted instance of WordPress, we would recommend that you start your site with Page.ly. They have done a great job, isolating the heavy lifting, and take care of the easy-to-use for your website needs. They also created some wonderful Themes that work right out of the box. If you already have a domain name they work with you to make it work with their site.
